Erskine Childers, the Irish President, left joined the mourners at the funeral of Senator Billy Fox, 35 years, Protestant, Fine Gael politician, Co Monaghan, Rep of Ireland, 14th March 1974. Immediately behind Childers is the Irish prime minister, An Taoiseach, Liam Cosgrave. Fox was previously a TD (Irish MP).  He was visiting the home near Clones of his fiancee which unknown to him had been taken over by thirteen armed paramilitaries. He ran from the scene but was followed and shot dead in a nearby field. Five members of the Provisional IRA were subsequently tried and convicted of the killing. Alongside Childers is Rev T J Gray, the local Church of Ireland minister. 197403140164a<br />
